We’re Happy You’re Here

Elizabeth Ahn, LPC

Hi, I’m Liz Ahn, a Licensed Professional Counselor at Abide Therapy Services.

Being a therapist reflects the core part of me that enjoys listening to people’s stories and getting to know others at the heart level that is real, genuine, and authentic. Compassionate and confidential mental health support is a gift to yourself that invites you into a secure place to unload emotional burdens that empowers you toward growth as you rise through hard personal challenges.

Experience

I began my career in 2002 working with children in school settings. I have extensive experience providing social, emotional and academic counseling to students with behavioral health and special education related needs such as anxiety and stress, depression, conflict and anger management, grief, relationship issues, and emotional disturbance in order to achieve success in school. Trauma-informed and brain-based therapeutic services provide essential support to help facilitate positive change in students and aid in their educational achievement. I believe that a child can focus on their academics if they have positive beliefs within and tools in their toolbox.

In my six years of working with children and adolescents as a school counselor, I struggled to start a family of my own and it wasn’t a smooth experience. Seven long and painful years of infertility, miscarriages, an ectopic pregnancy, grief and loss…it was all consuming. After these devastating losses, I decided to turn my lemons into lemonade and pursue my licensure as a professional counselor. Everyone feels pain and suffering; they are universal experiences we all have in common despite our differences. We all have a story; I will listen to yours and gently hold it for you, for as long or as short as you need.

I work with women, children and adolescents, and specialize in trauma therapy and POC/ bicultural identity, as well as the following:

Individual counseling with gender limitations for female clients only:

  • Trauma, PTSD, Anxiety, Depression

  • Asian-American Pacific Islander (AAPI) Mental Wellness and Care

  • Racial/Cultural identity

  • Women Issues

  • Infertility

  • Grief and Loss

  • Parenting Struggles

  • Divorce Recovery

  • Life Transitions

Children and Adolescents Counseling:

  • Managing school stressors

  • Relationship Challenges

  • Depression

  • Anxiety

As a trauma-informed and psychodynamic therapist, I integrate evidence-based treatments such as Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), mindfulness, and traditional talk therapy that is person-centered and upon request, biblical counseling to help you develop skills and strategies to handle problematic thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. My goal is to help you feel safe, secure, and connected throughout the therapeutic process as we navigate through your life’s demands and transitions.

Perhaps you’re feeling a significant amount of stress, anxiety, or feelings of depression from relationship issues, an illness, fertility struggles, divorce, or having to care for children and/or aging parents or maybe you’ve recently become an empty-nester, or have reached retirement age. On the flip side, the positives in your life such as graduations, career opportunities, marriage, births, and parenting may cause the same exact anxious feelings. Having someone available to listen and help you work through the joys and challenges you experience can be helpful and relieve some of the pressure. Together, I believe we can advance your journey toward healing and establishing lasting change based on your individual needs and help get you back to feeling your best.

Khloe Hui, LCSW

Hi there! I’m Khloe, a licensed clinical social worker and mental health therapist at Abide Therapy Services.

My approach to therapy is down-to-earth and collaborative, with an emphasis on working towards tangible goals; I want to see the people I work with make movement they can feel good about. This might entail gently challenging my clients to consider changes they can begin to feel empowered to make- even if that’s as simple as creating more opportunities to slow down or pursue deeper, more enriching relationships. My intention is to support my clients to face challenges, develop skills to manage them, and uncover hope for what’s to come.

Experience

Prior to private practice, I’ve worked over a decade in several different community-based settings in Philadelphia and the surrounding areas, providing services such as case management, outpatient psychotherapy to adults, and most recently, mental health counseling in a university setting. Over the years, I’ve developed immense respect for the unique strengths and challenges that different cultural and faith backgrounds create for people and their communities, and I seek to honor this in my work with everyone I meet with. I’ve been so humbled by the resiliency of the folks I’ve interacted with, and that observed strength has contributed to my own tenacity to ‘keep on keeping on’ when things have felt hard. It is incredibly humbling and rewarding to sit with people at their lowest points and see them surprise themselves time and again as they find their way forward, stronger, joy-filled, even.

I specialize in the following:

  • Life transitions

  • Grief & loss

  • Depression & anxiety

  • Recovery services

  • Eye movement desensitization and reprocessing (EMDR)

  • Faith-based counseling and/ or religious trauma recovery therapy

Additionally, I provide:

  • Interracial couples counseling

  • Premarital counseling

Therapy is an investment and I want to honor your time and resources by staying intentional in our work together. Despite competency in other areas of need, I’ll be honest with you about my strongest areas of expertise and whether I think I would be a good fit as your therapist.

In my free time, I enjoy being outside as much as possible and spending time with my husband, wild toddler, lovable dog, and cats- who really just tolerate the rest of us. Community is really important to me, so I’m regularly frequenting local coffee shops or bubble tea establishments with friends and loved ones, soaking up sweet moments and conversations.

Education

I double-majored and graduated from Cairn University receiving a bachelor’s degree in Social Work and a bachelor’s degree in Science in Bible. After working in the field a couple of years and narrowing down interest and niche in mental health, I returned to graduate school at Bryn Mawr College and received my Master of Social Service (*MSW equivalent.) I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of Pennsylvania, and approach therapy from a trauma-informed perspective with emphasis on client strengths. In my work, I incorporate Systems Theory, Motivational Interviewing, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, and can provide EMDR therapy; currently, I am pursuing certification for EMDR with EMDR Consulting, EMDRIA-approved provider.
